Reddit’s !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is a veritable cornucopia of the many !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! of shop lyfe. You never know what’s gonna roll in. Here’s what caught my eye this week.

...found that previous owner covered the harness plug in a mixture of Flex Seal, HVAC Tape, and I think some gasket maker. For good measure the ECU was plasti dipped as well. None of this really helped because inside the ECU was a ton of corrosion.

So after being told by an engineer that it is not possible for the headliner material to react like that to the defroster, I started looking around. Noticed a perfect break in the dust behind the rear seat headrest. Found a stashed mirror that fit the outline of the dust perfectly. This lady left a mirror in her car under the window and burnt a hole through her headliner and didn’t think we’d figure it out.

Apparently, he noticed when one of the wheels went rolling past him.

2015 transit was towed in with the customer saying that they lost power and though maybe it had to do with a driveshaft recall on the transits. Basically, theres suppose to be a large, black flex coupling that bolts onto a flange on the trans and the driveshaft bolts into the coupling. The recall has changed a bunch of times, but essentially you’re suppose to replace the coupling amongst other things when it developed cracks. The driveshaft apparently had enough of the couplings shit and took a bunch of lines and wiring out with it when it seperated. Pretty much the definition of a catastrophic failure

Honestly I have no idea but he did overheat his brakes (towing 13000 pounds like a dumbass) so probably something to do with that

Okay so story goes like this. Customer took vehicle to the dealer and said a/c was inop. Dealer says needs evap core and that they’re too busy to mess with it. Customer then take it to local body shop that farms a lot of their mechanical and electrical repairs out to us. They tell me customer is very vague and not wanting to give a lot of info about what happened. Just said that the dealer told them they need an evap core and that they need to get out of town by Monday. As we begin to break down the center console, tech noticed a hole in one of the plastic flip down trays under the a/c controls. Removed that tray and found some wires that had been repaired with butt connectors. Once we pushed those wires aside we saw another hole directly in the a/c box. This is where we begin to become suspicious. Sure enough, there is something rattling around in the box when we remove it. Honestly though, we put the bullet back into the hole in the core for dramatic effect for the picture, but I swear to God this is real.

After lengthy discussions with everyone here at the shop and the shop that brought it to us, we all decided that the sketchiness of the situation and customer’s behavior was enough that we felt obligated to report it.

They are very interested.

Cops came by and took pics and our trophy (the bullet) away for evidence.

No oil change in two years... This is a 2011 Sonata, with the class action lawsuit theyre approving all of them... They literally have to approve all over them cause they can’t prove without a doubt that lack of maintenance is what caused the engine to fail.

I’ve been tempted to start taking the extra floor mats out and putting them in a trunk and then leaving a note that says they were removed for their safety, and the safety of everyone else on the road.

I haven’t yet because people will probably freak the fuck out.

I thought it was a joke at first, just somebody playing around with a junk crankshaft. OP insists it’s real though. *shrug* Truly baffling.
